Autumn Interior Updates for Your New Home

As autumn arrives in a flurry of crisp air and falling leaves, it’s time to get cosy in your new home. Just a few small changes can transform the look and feel of your living space and the good news is you don’t require a massive budget to make a difference.

Read below for our autumn interior design ideas for new-build homes…

Add texture

One of the best ways to bring warmth into your home is to introduce fabrics to add texture. Throws, rugs, cushions and lampshades are all items that can be interchanged. Drape a chunky throw over the arm of your sofa to snuggle under when the nights get cold. Add a rug with luxurious fluffy fibres to a hardwood floor to feel warmth under your toes.

Cushions are a great way to make a bold statement or add subtle warmth; strategically placed, they are one of the most affordable ways to refresh your interior. Striped cushions are really on trend this season, so go on the hunt for variations in your favourite colours.

Another option to consider is to change your lampshades. As long as you make sure that you tie in with the colour-scheme of the other fabrics in the room, a great lampshade can add such a striking focal point.

Warm lighting

Lighting is simply the best way to up the cosy factor in your home and is crucial for setting the mood. On a cold and dark grey day, having the right lighting can make you feel uplifted, warm and ready to embrace the frost. Lamps are not just for desks and corners – scatter some battery-operated lights with a smaller wattage bulb and watch how they can transform the place. Don’t forget the candles! Candlelight is a brilliant way to create cosy ambiance and a warm glow.

Fill your home with autumnal fragrance

Scent is well-known for making us feel nostalgic and we associate it with certain memories or times of the year. Use candles, diffusers and room sprays to create a calm and welcoming environment. Choose gorgeous seasonal scents such as cinnamon, sandalwood, apple and spice.

Colour Trends for Autumn

Let Mother Nature be your guide when choosing your colour scheme for Autumn 2024. Deep plums, rusty red’s, earthy olive greens and sunset colours not only reflect the season, but can also add a sophisticated touch to any room, reminding us of the beauty that this time of year brings.

Bring Nature Inside

Flowers and plants are such a brilliant way to bring a pop of colour into your space. Whether it’s the hallway or kitchen table, you can have fun coordinating the colour of your fabrics to the flowers you introduce. Dried flower arrangements look especially beautiful in Autumn – they are slightly paler than they once were and have weathered the storm like much of nature outside the window.

Updating your home for Autumn offers you the chance to slow down, reflect and create a warm and inviting atmosphere that captures the essence of the season. This doesn’t require huge amounts of effort – with just a few thoughtful changes you can completely uplift and refresh your new home.
