5 simple storage solutions for your home

A key part of creating a clutter-free home is to have effective storage solutions that ensure all your belongings are kept out of sight but are still easily accessible when you need them.

Thankfully, there are many clever storage solutions available, even for smaller properties or when space is especially tight. Here we have 5 simple storage suggestions to help you keep your home organisation a little more manageable.

Clever shelving

Floor space is premium in a home, so sometimes you have to look a bit higher up for storage options. Plenty of homes fail to maximise lost space on walls, but with some clever shelving you could give yourself a variety of new homes for books, stationery, and other small items.

Utilising wall space above doorframes, next to door frames, and above beds and sofas is ideal for shelving placements without impacting your movement space in tighter areas. However, these spaces are usually better to place items that you don’t need to access so regularly. Shelving can also be a great place to house lamps, candles, and houseplants, which all add to the comfort and ambiance of your home.

Hanging storage

Moving up a little higher still, there are further storage opportunities using your ceiling space too. Ceiling racks are great for hoisting up laundry to dry in a utility room or spare bedroom, or they could even be used in the kitchen to dangle utensils, tea towels, or aprons before you next need them.

If you are short on storage space in your bedroom, then ceiling racks and hangers can also be useful here to neatly store clothes and accessories high up, leaving your bedroom floor clear and clutter free.

Back of door space

Doors can be so much more than just an entrance into another room. They can be used as useful backdrops to hang storage baskets that hold small items that you need easy access to.

On the back of a bathroom door, for example, baskets can be hung with wall hooks to hold toiletries, make-up, toilet rolls and other essentials, whereas in a kitchen, the inside of a door can be used to hang racks of spices, sauces, and utensils. There are some lovely jute wall baskets available, as well as hanging organisers if you need more order to your items.

Under-bed storage

Investing in beds with storage underneath can be a real game changer for many families. Whether it’s an ottoman bed, which lifts up, or a bed with drawers that pull-out underneath, there are many options available to choose from.

Underbed storage can be great for storing out-of-season clothes, extra bed sheets, towels, and gym equipment, or toys and books in a kid’s room – ensuring that all these items are stored safely, out of sight, but are easily reachable when needed.

Storage furniture

As well as storage space under your bed, there are many other pieces of furniture that have a lot of wasted space underneath too.

Whether it’s a straw basket under your desk to house paperwork and magazines, or a pull-out drawer on wheels under your sofa for blankets and spare sheets, there is an option for even the slimmest of spaces.

You can buy coffee tables with built in storage below the surface for housing books or board games, and ottomans in your hallway don’t only offer a comfy place to rest and take off your shoes, but they also provide a great storage option for umbrellas, shoes, or pet supplies.
